Retire In Guanacaste, Costa Rica

Introduction to Guanacaste

Guanacaste is a popular destination for vacationers to Costa Rica, and for good reason. The province is located in the North-Western part of the country and is known for its great climate, stunning beaches, beautiful nature reserves and many fun and safe beach and mountain towns. Some of the more popular towns in Guanacaste are: Las Catalinas, Tamarindo, Nosara, Samara, Nicoya and many more in-between. With a massive coastline, both developed luxury- and tranquil nature beaches stretch here for many hundreds of kilometers. Additionally thanks to the strong environmental protection efforts from the local government, the beaches here can be considered amongst the cleanest in all of Central America.

Why Retiring in Guanacaste, Costa Rica Is A Good Idea?

The comfort and security that the region offers make it a desirable place to live in. The pace of life is slower, so you have more time to interact and socialize with people. The local people are very friendly and helpful, and there is a vibrant and close-knit ex-pat community. Interaction with nature is a daily thing in Guanacaste, which brings both peace and appreciation. However, living in Guanacaste does not mean you will need to give up on your urban lifestyle. In Guanacaste there are a number of desirable cities and towns to live in; as well as a nearby international airport, the second largest in the country, in the city of Liberia. The more well-known cities and towns in Guanacaste have all the necessary facilities for modern living such as a great education system, modern infrastructure, malls, supermarkets, restaurants and an excellent provision of health care.

Lifestyle

Residents have a tranquil, calm and relaxed lifestyle which can most simply be regarded as ‘laidback’. People live their lives and try to do it with kindness and an appreciation for every day spent in a beautiful setting. It’s not uncommon to see people going out of their homes barefoot and spending a sunset session at the beach with their dogs. Most Costa Ricans just want to live a happy and peaceful life and believe in enjoying every moment to its fullest. For adventure enthusiasts there are a plethora of possible outdoor activities in Guanacaste, for example: kayaking, surfing, sailing, golf, tennis, horseback riding, snorkeling, hiking and so much more. Throughout the year, the North-West Pacific coast provides excellent opportunities for water sports such as scuba diving, snorkeling and surfing. The Pacific coast, from Papagayo Bay to Golfito, is known for its excellent sport fishing. Sailboat, marlin, tuna, and Wahoo are traditional objects of local trophy fishing. Additionally, for food and night life enthusiasts, the Guanacaste province has many high classed restaurants, bars and clubs spread throughout the various towns and cities.
