Quality Education For Expats on The Gold Coast of Guanacaste
During the 29 years that I’ve lived in Guanacaste, on the Gold Coast of Costa Rica, I have lived and worked in Playa Grande and Flamingo. In the real estate business, I am always asked about schools and what kind of education is available for children coming from other countries.
Back in the day, there were few choices for expats to enroll their kids into a quality school, and I am proud to say that I was part of a small group of parents that brought in the first USA accredited school to the area which was Country Day School - Guanacaste, known today as CRIA, located on the main highway near Conchal.
My daughter attended this school from first grade through to the twelfth and received an excellent, well rounded education. With her good grades, and the accreditation of the school, she was accepted to attend the College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina for her undergraduate college degree.
Since then La Paz Community School has also settled into the Flamingo area and as of this writing both schools are running at full capacity. These schools are attended for many reasons, but the greater of which is that international families can move to this area knowing these schools can provide their children a worldly, global view while not sacrificing traditional academics or overall quality of education.
Both schools are much less expensive than private school education in the United States, but another great alternative in this area is Educarte School near Huacas. This is a top accredited public school that offers a high standard of education at a lower price.
I constantly think how fortunate we are to have these exceptional private schools making it possible for families to buy the best Gold Coast real estate in Flamingo, Playa Grande, Conchal, Tamarindo, Pacific Heights, Potrero and Las Catalinas while not sacrificing their children’s education. Educating your child in any of these schools will enlighten them globally, introduce them to a more natural way of life, give them a second language at minimum, and afford them the opportunity to make friends in school with children from a variety of countries and cultures.
